How the end came for D1030 Western Musketeer in April 1976. She collided with D1013 Western Ranger at Plymouth’s Laira Depot, although some enthusiasts suggest the altercation occurred with a Class 50, but D1013 was originally earmarked for withdrawal. But the decision was reversed and D1030 paid the price instead as can be seen here on this TOPS print out of the period. ‘FOR’ is the TOPS code for ‘Written Off’.
