How D1051 Western Ambassador’s life in BR service ended on the TOPS records. The locomotive hit ballast at Cogload Junction while in charge of the (1B15) 08.30 Paddington-Plymouth on September 1, 1976. The through control wiring and AWS was badly damaged as a result and she was withdrawn the following day, September 2 at 13.00. Once again TOPS recorded the demise as ‘Written Off’.
