Western Dawn, 2002
Western Dawn was the second part for the trilogy and was another first for researchers and historians, telling the story, as it did through official correspondence involved the Design Panel and British Railways. It revealed for the first time how the designers struggled to get BR to listen to their radical views on the look of the hydraulics which in the end saw co-designers/consultants Sir Misha Black and John Beresford-Evans, produced a locomotive that many believe was the best-looking diesel ever built. It was a winner from the start along with its stablemate publications as one customer on Amazon wrote: “This book, along with Hymek Dawn and Warship Dawn are the most historically important hydraulic books ever written, researched and produced. If you want to know the real story behind the look and liveries of these diesel hydraulics then get all three. Western Dawn takes you through the whole process with genius designer Misha Black playing the biggest part in it all. The letters are fascinating stuff and it transports you back to a time when Britain's diesel age was just taking place. All three books are produced on high quality art paper and have great colour and black and white pics to accompany the informative text. They are full value for money. Highly recommended.”
