Western Volume One, (Swindon-built Locomotives), 2010
This was the first in a trilogy that was heralded as the most comprehensive and detailed account of the lives of each of the 74 Western Class locomotives. Each engine in this volume, those built at Swindon (D1000-29) is featured in detail, complete with liveries, repaints, warning panel applications, experiments, works visits and also includes how the names were chosen and how the design was put together by Messrs. Black and Beresford-Evans. anything you ever wanted to know about an individual engine is included in this first volume and the follow-up publication which dealt with the Crewe-built engines. Many regard the books as the author’s finest hour although the forthcoming Western Chronicles are set to put them in the shade.
