D1029 Western Legionnaire

D1029 Western Legionnaire

£16.99

TO BE PUBLISHED WINTER 2021: D1029 Western Legionnaire was the last Western to be built at Swindon, indeed the last main line locomotive to emerge from the famous shops. Finally being accepted into traffic after tests in July 1964, D1029 had a working life of just over a decade! As well as being famous for the last Western to be build by Swindon, she also gained notoriety for having her name plate spelt incorrectly as ‘Legionaire’ when introduced to traffic. This was finally corrected to ‘Legionnaire’ at a works visit in 1969. But how did it get spelt wrongly in the first place, well D1029’s book has all the answers. At more than 60 pages, with colour and black and white pictures including shots from David M. Cross, son of the late Derek Cross, as well as the Edward Rennie collection, this A5 book, complete with usual dust jacket and glossy paper inside, retails for £16.99 with post and packing FREE. It is perhaps a swan song for the Westerns as we pay tribute to the final Class 52 to roll off the Swindon production line. A must have publication for your Collection and due to be published in December 2021 or earlier.
