THIS TITLE WILL BE PUBLISHED IN 2021: One of the vent-fitted Western Class 52s, D1071’s life was eventful to say the least. On top of the experimental air vent for the driving cabs, the locomotive was also involved in a major accident at St. Annes Park, Bristol in January 1967. On top of that she ended her life by failing at Taunton in dramatic circumstances with a cardan shaft adrift. The engine lasted right until December 1976 and was one of the last of the class to receive a works overhaul at Swindon, being outshopped in August 1972.
