The 101-strong BR Hymek Class 35s lasted until 1975 and remain extremely popular today with many enthusiasts. Built by the Beyer Peacock (Hymek) Consortium at its Gorton Works , they were arguably the most successful Type Three locomotives of the modernisation era. Designed by Ted Wiles and Peter Ashmore, who also had a hand in the Brush type fours and prototype Falcon, they produced a locomotive that soon found favour with maintenance staff and drivers alike.
